Séb Krier is an artificial intelligence policy expert, adviser and attorney working to improve the regulatory and legal frameworks governing AI and studying the impacts of emerging technologies on democracy and human rights.

Séb joined the UK Government’s Office for Artificial Intelligence as Head of Regulation in 2018. His work involved leading the world’s first comprehensive review of AI in the public sector and designing policies to address novel issues such as the oversight of automated decision-making systems. He also represented the United Kingdom at various multilateral fora such as the European Commission, the World Economic Forum, the OECD, and the Digital Nations. He subsequently advised governments, public and private organisations on AI policy, ethics and governance as an independent consultant.

Séb is a Fellow at the Royal Society of Arts and Manufacturing and sits on various technical and advisory boards. In a previous life, he qualified as a lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, specialising in public international law, human rights, and investor-state disputes. He studied Law at King’s College London and obtained an MPA focusing on technology and social impact from UCL in 2018. Outside of work, he enjoys collecting records, producing electronic music, and occasionally, bird watching.
