Dr. Charles Binkley is an experienced cancer surgeon, bioethicist, and physician leader. Dr. Binkley attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his surgery training at the University of Michigan where he was awarded an NIH fellowship in pancreatic cancer research.
Prior to joining Hackensack Meridian Health, Dr. Binkley directed the bioethics program at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics where he teaches a year long health care ethics course. He is an experienced liver and pancreas cancer surgeon and directed the clinical ethics consultation service at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, California. His work is focused on AI clinical decision support systems, particularly the need to inform patients, shared machine-physician agency, and assigning moral responsibility for AI guided clinical decisions.
