Dr. Sema Candemir

Dr. Sema Candemir is an Assistant Professor at Eskisehir Technical University, Computer Engineering Department, Turkey, specializing in medical image and video analysis.
She is the founder of the AI in Healthcare Laboratory (https://aihealthlab.eskisehir.edu.tr/en).
Her research focuses on creating novel techniques for detecting regions of interest, leveraging deep convolutional neural networks, and integrating various imaging modalities with non-imaging clinical data.
Before joining Eskisehir Technical University, Dr. Candemir served as a Research Scientist at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Department of Radiology from 2018 to 2022. From 2013 to 2018, she worked as a Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Researcher at the U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health. Additionally, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 2011 to 2012.
Dr. Candemir has received several awards, including the TUBITAK 2232-A International Fellowship for Outstanding Researchers in 2022, the Best Paper Award at the 30th IEEE CBMS in 2017, the NLM Honor Awards in 2016 and 2017, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Ignited Pathway Award for Automatic X-ray Screening for Rural Areas in 2014.
Dr. Candemir is an active contributor to the scientific community, serving on the editorial boards of Radiomics and Artificial Intelligence, Frontiers in Nuclear Medicine, the Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, and Springer Discover Imaging. She also contributes as a program committee member for conferences on medical data analysis and as a reviewer for several prestigious peer-reviewed journals.
