Itaru Saito is a research fellow at a national funding agency, conducting research on science, technology and scholarly trends in Asia and the Pacific so as to refer to the foreign good practices for the future of Japan. In terms of international relations, he investigates the role of international organizations such as ASEAN in AI governance.

He is also a former editor of scholarly publishing for 15 years, and has engaged in book editing on Science, Technology and Society Studies. Based on his former experience, he currently serves as a external affairs committee member for the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE).
