Leonardo Espinosa-Leal, PhD

Arcada University of Applied Sciences, AS, Helsinki, Finland

Leonardo has received a B.Sc. in Physics (2005) from the National University of Colombia. After a five-month research visit to the Center for Applied Physics and Advanced Technology in Queretaro, Mexico, in 2007, he moved to Spain, where he obtained an M.Sc. in Nanotechnology (2009) and a Ph.D. in Computational Materials Science (2013) at the University of the Basque Country.

After three years of postdoctoral research (2013-2016) at Aalto University (Finland), Leonardo switched his research interests towards Machine Learning, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence.

He joined Arcada UAS as a Researcher and Lecturer in Big Data Analytics in 2017, and since 2020 he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Big Data Analytics. He has a vast range of research interest comprehending, but not limited to, areas such as autonomous intelligent machines, mining of big datasets, clustering of time series, causality, quantum machine learning, extreme learning machines, creative machines, philosophy of artificial intelligence, computer vision, deep reinforcement learning among many others.
