Matiss Ozols, Ph.D
Principal Bioinformatician in Human Genetics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, UK
Dr. Matiss Ozols is a Principal Bioinformatician in Human Genetics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and an Honorary Research Associate at The University of Manchester. With an interdisciplinary background in Medical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Machine Learning, and Biochemistry, his research has explored skin aging, cardiovascular disease, and related conditions, focusing on proteomics, genomics, and the development of bioinformatic resources.
Dr. Ozols’s current work encompasses:
i) the identification of novel therapeutic targets for aging, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions through integrative multi-omics and single-cell approaches,
ii) the development of advanced bioinformatic pipelines for complex data integration, and
iii) the creation of user-friendly web tools, databases, and visualization platforms that incorporate machine learning, deep learning, and statistical methods.
He is passionate about advancing fundamental biological knowledge by leveraging cutting-edge biological datasets, including single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, to unravel complex cellular interactions. His research aims to transform our understanding of disease mechanisms and guide innovative strategies for disease prevention, prediction, and management at both individual and population levels.”
